THE LOCK THAT FINALLY MATCHES TORQUE

"You can spend £thousands on an e-bike... but it's the £50 lock hanging off it that often decides whether you still own it tomorrow."
I've spent the last few weeks turning my Scott Aspect eRIDE 910—better known as Torque—into exactly the bike I wanted.
Orange pedals.
Orange grips.
Orange valve caps.
Mudguards.
Lights.
Bottle cage.
Every upgrade has had one purpose: making Torque the perfect companion for days out, campervan adventures and exploring the forests of Cannock Chase.
But there has always been one weak link.
Security.
A Lock Worthy of the Bike
After plenty of research, I think I've finally found it.
The Hiplok DX.
This isn't just another D-lock.
It's one of the few locks carrying Sold Secure Powered Cycle Diamond certification—the highest rating recommended for expensive e-bikes.
In simple English...
If someone wants to steal Torque, they're going to have to work very hard for it.
And that's exactly what I wanted.
It Looks the Part Too
Let's be honest.
Looks matter.
Torque is finished in stealthy midnight grey with bright orange highlights.
The Hiplok DX almost looks like Scott designed it themselves.
Instead of hiding the lock away, it actually becomes part of the bike's personality.
Practical.
Visible.
Unmistakably Nix.
Don't Forget the Front Wheel
A D-lock is brilliant.
But a thief doesn't always want the whole bike.
Sometimes they'll happily settle for your front wheel.
That's where Hiplok's 1-metre auxiliary cable comes in.
It threads through the front wheel before locking into the DX, meaning both wheels are protected without carrying another heavy lock.
Simple.
Lightweight.
Job done.
The Nix Locking Method™
I've already got a routine worked out.
Find something solid.
Pass the DX through the rear wheel and rear triangle.
Lock it to the bike stand.
Thread the auxiliary cable through the front wheel.
Clip the cable into the DX.
Whole bike secured.
Maximum protection.
Minimum fuss.
Perfect for Van Life
One thing I love about campervan life is stopping wherever looks interesting.
A café.
A country pub.
A village.
A viewpoint.
Maybe a cheeky pint before heading back to Vanilla.
Until now I've always had that little voice saying...
"Is the bike going to be there when I come back?"
The Hiplok won't eliminate that worry completely—nothing will—but it shifts the odds massively in my favour.
That's worth every penny.
Security Is More Than a Lock
Of course, a good lock is only part of the story.
I still:
Choose busy locations.
Lock to solid, immovable objects.
Remove accessories when I can.
Keep my bike insured.
Avoid leaving it unattended for long periods.
Security is about layers, not miracles.
The harder you make it, the more likely a thief moves on to an easier target.
The NIX Verdict
Torque has become more than just an e-bike.
It's my ticket to forest trails, country pubs, campervan weekends and adventures that start only a few miles from home but feel a world away.
Protecting it properly isn't an expense.
It's part of owning it.
The Hiplok DX and auxiliary cable tick every box:
🔒 Diamond-rated security.
🟠 A colour that perfectly matches Torque.
🚲 Lightweight enough to carry.
🛠️ Strong enough to satisfy even demanding insurers.
🍺 Gives me the confidence to enjoy a pint at the pub without constantly staring out of the window.
Sometimes the best upgrade isn't faster, lighter or more powerful.
Sometimes it's simply making sure your pride and joy is still exactly where you left it.
NIX Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10
Now all I need is a sturdy bike stand, a countryside pub serving a decent pint... and for anyone eyeing up Torque to realise there are far easier bikes to steal than mine. 🚴🍺🔒
