Nemesis vs Zoom

🚁 Nemesis vs. Zoom: A Tale of Two Titans in the Sky

Mavic 2 Pro
Mavic 2 Pro

Welcome, drone lovers, pixel chasers, and fellow airspace adventurers! If you’ve ever launched a drone and felt that rush — that ā€œI am one with the windā€ moment — you’ll get why I’m completely obsessed with two standout stars of the drone world: the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and the DJI Mini 4 Pro.

These two machines — Nemesis and Zoom, as I’ve christened them — are the power duo at the core of my drone arsenal. In this blog post, we’re diving deep into what makes each of them special, and why, depending on the mission, I’ll reach for one or the other like a pilot grabbing the perfect co-pilot.

šŸ“ø The Mavic 2 Pro – My Hasselblad Hero

Let’s start with the heavyweight champion: the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

āœ… Hasselblad Camera with 1ā€ Sensor

At the heart of Nemesis is a 20MP Hasselblad L1D-20c camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor. This isn’t just a marketing gimmick — this thing captures 10-bit Dlog-M video, which means glorious dynamic range, exceptional colour grading potential, and silky smooth footage that’s professional-grade.

Whether I’m filming Cornish cliffs or Staffordshire treetops, the image quality is jaw-dropping. Details pop. Colours sing.

šŸŽ„ Adjustable Aperture – f/2.8 to f/11

The ability to manually adjust the aperture means I can shoot confidently in bright sunlight or low light without fiddling with ND filters mid-flight. It’s a feature I lean on constantly.

āœˆļø Flight Performance

  • Max Flight Time: 31 minutes

  • Top Speed: 72 kph (Sport Mode)

  • Transmission Range: OcuSync 2.0 – up to 8km

  • Internal Storage: 8GB (and yes, it’s saved me more than once when I forgot my SD card)

It’s a stable, confidence-inspiring aircraft — and despite newer models being on the market, the Mavic 2 Pro still flies like royalty.

🧠 Smart Features

  • Omnidirectional Obstacle Avoidance (minus top)

  • ActiveTrack 2.0

  • Waypoint Missions

  • Hyperlapse Mode

  • Tripod Mode for those slow, cinematic reveals

🪶 The Mini 4 Pro – Lightweight, Not Light on Features

Now meet the Mini marvel — the DJI Mini 4 Pro.

Weighing just 249g, Zoom slips under the A1 Open Category rules in the UK. That means no A2 CofC needed, and freedom to fly in more places — ideal for spontaneity and legal peace of mind.

šŸŽ¦ Stunning Camera Capabilities

  • Sensor: 1/1.3ā€ CMOS with dual native ISO

  • Stills: 48MP (via Quad Bayer tech)

  • Video: 4K at 100fps, 10-bit D-Log M & HLG

  • Aperture: Fixed at f/1.7, superb in low light

That 100fps slow-mo in 4K is absolute gold. It opens up creative options that were previously reserved for larger, pricier rigs.

šŸ›ø Next-Level Flight Tech

  • Max Flight Time: 34 minutes (standard battery)

  • Max Transmission: OcuSync 4.0 – up to 20km (in FCC)

  • Max Speed: 57 kph

  • Live Feed: Full HD at 60fps for precision framing

And here’s the game changer: it finally brings Waypoint Missions, Cruise Control, and FocusTrack to the Mini lineup — making this pocket rocket just as clever as its bigger brothers.

🧠 Obstacle Avoidance… Done Right

Unlike previous Minis, this one has 360° omnidirectional sensors and APAS 5.0 — meaning it can actively avoid objects in all directions. Yes, even trees (not naming names, but you know who you are, Branchzilla).

šŸŽÆ Which One Should You Fly?

Here’s my honest take:

šŸ›  Choose the Mavic 2 Pro if:

  • You want full manual control and aperture flexibility

  • You’re serious about post-production

  • You don’t mind flying in A2 airspace with CofC cover

  • You love Hasselblad optics and heavyweight stability

🧳 Choose the Mini 4 Pro if:

  • You want portability, ease of travel, and fast setup

  • You want legal flexibility to fly almost anywhere

  • You still want pro-grade footage without carrying a brick

  • You love new features like Waypoints, Cruise Control, and 100fps slo-mo

🧠 Final Thoughts from the Flight Deck

I don’t pick favourites (OK, sometimes I do), but the truth is these two drones serve very different missions — and they both nail their purpose.

  • The Mavic 2 Pro is a cinematic beast. Big, bold, and battle-tested.

  • The Mini 4 Pro is a lightweight ninja with the brain of a pro and the body of a pocket rocket.

When I want to plan complex waypoint missions with buttery cinematic shots and push the limits of post-production, it’s Nemesis all day long.

When I want to travel light, fly fast, and still grab jaw-dropping footage, it’s Zoom who takes to the skies.

Either way, these drones represent the very best of what DJI offers. They’re not just aircraft. They’re storytellers. And with them, the sky isn’t the limit — it’s just the start.

Clear skies, stable gimbals, and perfect landings,
