🌟 INTRO: IT ALL STARTED WITH A BUZZ… 🌟
Not a bee buzz 🐝. Not an annoying phone notification buzz 📱.I mean that first heart-skipping whirr of Nemesis — my DJI Mavic 2 Pro — as its motors spun up for the very first time.
I remember standing there like: “Is this it? Am I about to become a sky god?” 😏💥Reader, I was hooked before it even left the ground.
🏞️ PART 1: FROM GROUNDHOG TO SKYHOG 🐾➡️🕊️
Once upon a time, my weekends were… fine.A bit of a walk, a bit of a drive, snap a few pics on the iPhone, maybe post a moody cloud on Instagram with “#wanderlust”. 🌥️📸Nice. But flat.
Then came Nemesis. 🛸
Suddenly, I wasn’t just visiting Cannock Chase — I was flying over it, sweeping over treetops, watching deer scatter in miniature below (don’t worry, legal height, always! 🫣).I wasn’t just camping in Cornwall — I was orbiting Vanilla, my campervan, at golden hour, turning her into a star on wheels. 🚐✨
It’s like moving from a postcard… to IMAX.
🎥 PART 2: HOW I USE NEMESIS TO MAKE LIFE LOOK EPIC 🎬🎶
✅ Sunrise over Staffordshire fields?Nemesis is up, ND filter on, camera set to Dlog-M.I’m talking buttery light, shadow-play on the land, mist glowing like something out of Middle Earth. 🌄🌫️
✅ Camping by the cliffs in Wales?Oh, we’re doing a full hero shot.POI orbit around Vanilla, capturing waves crashing below, me standing dramatically on the edge like an influencer (minus the hair sponsorship deal). 🌊💨
✅ Friends at the festival?ActiveTrack 2.0 ON.I get Nemesis to chase us laughing through the crowd — no shaky handheld needed, just silky cinematic goodness. 🎉🕺💃
✅ Road tripping?Waypoint mission plotted — car chugging along a winding road, drone swooping overhead. When people say “it looks like a car commercial,” I nod humbly (inside, I’m high-fiving myself). 🚗📽️
🤯 PART 3: THE “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT JUST DID THAT” MOMENTS
Here’s what I didn’t expect when I first bought Nemesis:
✨ It can dodge trees, poles, and buildings like a drunk Jedi on autopilot. 🌳⚡✨ It handles windy cliffs where I’m struggling to stand straight. 🌬️💪✨ It’s so precise, I once used it to hover and hand-catch when the ground was too rocky to land. (Would I recommend that? Not sober. 🍺➡️🙅♂️)
There’s something hilariously beautiful about shouting, “Nemesis! Come home, buddy!” and watching a robot bee-line back across a hillside, flashing its tiny LEDs like, “ON IT, JOHN!” 🚁💨
🛠️ PART 4: BEHIND THE SCENES — THE CHAOS YOU DON’T SEE 🤡🎒
Let’s be honest: social media sees the magic. What they don’t see?
Me in wellies, ankle-deep in mud, wrestling a landing pad that’s trying to fly away. 🌧️🪁
Me cursing the wind while holding down Vanilla’s pop-top with one hand and flying Nemesis with the other. 🍃😱
The 78% of shots that are just… me, awkwardly squinting up at the sky with seagulls yelling abuse. 🐦💥
BUT — it’s all part of the charm. For every flawless orbit shot, there’s an outtake of me shouting, “WHY IS IT BEEPING?!” 🤣
📱 PART 5: THE EDITING DEN — WHERE FLIGHT BECOMES FILM 🎬💻
Back in Vanilla, heater humming, kettle on, SD card plugged in. ☕🔥
Onscreen, magic.
Slow-motion beach waves 🌊🎶
Timelapses of sunset over the festival 🎉🌇
Aerial views of fields, forests, cliffs, and campervan moments 🚐❤️
I fire up Pixelmator Pro and CapCut, tweak colours, add music, and suddenly…It’s a film.
One I get to share — on Instagram, YouTube, or just with friends who say, “Mate… that’s stunning.”
💥 PART 6: WHY I FLY (AND WHY YOU SHOULD TOO)
People ask me, “John, is it worth the money? Is it hard? Don’t you crash it all the time?”
Here’s what I tell them:
✅ It’s worth it because it changes how you SEE.Landscapes you’ve driven past for years suddenly become magical. You see shapes, patterns, textures you never noticed.
✅ It’s not hard; it’s exhilarating. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro is smart. Beginner modes, safety sensors, GPS — it wants you to succeed.
✅ Do I crash?…define “crash.” 😏 Let’s just say: spare props are friends.
Most of all, I tell them:
Flying isn’t about showing off. It’s about connecting — to place, to moment, to the sheer JOY of seeing our world from a new perspective. 🌍✨
💬 MINI-REVIEWS FROM THE JOHN FAN CLUB (UNOFFICIAL, BUT GROWING) 📣
Andrea (friend, camper buddy):“John’s drone footage made our Cornwall trip look like a VisitBritain ad. I even forgave him for making me walk back up that cliff for a reshoot.” 😂🏖️
Simon (fellow tech nerd):“Dude, your Hyperlapse of the clouds over Cannock Chase? Chef’s kiss. I’ve watched it five times.” 🌄👨🍳💋
Random festival bloke:“Bro! Your drone is SICK! Wait, is that… your camper? Mate, you’re living the dream!” 🍻🎶🛸
🌈 JOHN’S 10 COMMANDMENTS OF DRONE LIFE 🌈
1️⃣ Respect the rules, or risk the wrath of the CAA gods. 📜⚡2️⃣ Early morning = the best light AND fewer nosey dog walkers. 🌅🐕3️⃣ Charge EVERYTHING the night before. 🔋🔌4️⃣ Always pack spare SD cards. 🧳💾5️⃣ Bring ND filters — they turn “meh” into “marvelous.” 🕶️🎥6️⃣ Check the weather… then check again. 🌦️7️⃣ Be ready to laugh at yourself. (Mud is NOT your friend.) 🤣8️⃣ Fly for the fun, not just for the ‘Gram. 📸❤️9️⃣ Edit with your heart, not just your head. 🎶💫🔟 Always — and I mean ALWAYS — name your drone. (Nemesis says hi.) 🛸👋
✨ FINAL TAKEOFF: WHY THIS DRONE, WHY THIS LIFE
The DJI Mavic 2 Pro isn’t just a bit of kit. It’s my adventure buddy. It’s my eye in the sky. It’s the reason people come up to me at a campsite and say, ‘Mate… can I see that footage?’ 🚐🏕️👀
Every flight is a little rebellion against the ordinary.Every shot is a memory I’d never have had from the ground.
So yeah, I’m that guy — the one with the campervan, the thermos of coffee, the grin on his face, and the little folding robot ready to soar over it all.
